Great days out
Kent is full of great places to go, from amazing beaches to fabulous Castles. These are some of our favourites.
BEACHES
Tankerton
Near to Whitstable, Tankerton has a long pebble beach, which provides a huge area of shallow swimming water across the tides, with a quieter vibe than Whitstable. When the tide is out it is a long way away though, so time your visit for a couple of hours either side of the high tide.
Margate
A massive sandy beach with everything you would expect from this iconic seaside town. Cafes, restaurants, the Turner Contemporary gallery, Dreamland amusement park and live music venue, and plenty of things for the kids to do.
Dungeness
A beautiful bleak and magical seaside location. Absolutely worth a visit for those of you who love to wander and explore. The only official desert in the UK, Dungeness has a fabulous shifting shingle dunes which are strewn with the wind-blown hulks of its former fishing fleet.
WALKS
The Kings Wood
Stunning ancient woodland in a former Royal hunting park, good for dog walking and bike trails, about 40mins drive from Canterbury.
The Saxon Shore Way
This epic route follows the coast of Kent and you can pick it up in multiple locations.
Oare Gunpowder Works country park
This stunning nature reserve is full of amazing historic ruins from its time as one of the biggest gunpowder factories in the country. It is also an important nature reserve so there is plenty to do here and lots of discoveries to be made. Near to the beautiful medieval town of Faversham, full of cafes for a great lunch or afternoon tea.
